How to choose a lottery
The best lottery to play depends on what you want from it: the biggest possible jackpot, the best odds of winning something, frequent draws, or a low price per line. No game wins on all four. Powerball and Mega Millions offer the largest jackpots with odds of about 1 in 290 million, while South Africa's Daily Lotto (1 in 376,992) and Ireland's Daily Million (1 in 3,262,623) are far easier to win but pay much smaller top prizes.
The four things to compare
Jackpot size
Rollover games grow every time nobody wins, and some have a ceiling: EuroMillions is capped at €250 million and EuroJackpot at €120 million. Fixed-prize games never roll over. Thunderball's top prize is a fixed £500,000, Daily Million pays a fixed €1 million (won or shared), and the Classic jackpot of Canada's Lotto 6/49 is fixed at C$5 million.
Odds
Jackpot odds depend on how many numbers you must match and how big the pools are. A separate bonus pool multiplies the number of possible lines, which is why games with an extra ball, such as Powerball, are so hard to win. Each figure on LottaGo is calculated from the game's number pools, so games can be compared on equal terms.
Draw frequency
Daily Lotto draws every day except Christmas Day, Daily Million twice a day, Thunderball four times a week, and Oz Lotto once a week. More draws give you more chances to play, but the odds per line stay the same.
Price per line
As of October 2026, a line costs anything from R3 for a Daily LOTTO board (as reported) or €1 for a Daily Million panel to $5 for a Mega Millions line. A higher price can buy extras: every $5 Mega Millions line has included a random 2X–10X multiplier on non-jackpot prizes since April 2025.

*South African rules and prices are as reported after the 2026 operator change; the official rule pages could not be checked, so confirm with the National Lottery before you play. UK Lotto now draws two rounds per draw night with the same line, and the official per-line odds for the new format are not yet confirmed. One round alone has C(59,6) = 45,057,474 possible lines. Australian line prices are not listed because LottaGo has not verified them.
United States
US Powerball and Mega Millions have almost identical jackpot odds. Powerball costs $2, draws three times a week and offers Power Play for $1 extra. Mega Millions costs $5 and draws twice a week. The full comparison is in Powerball vs Mega Millions.
UK and Ireland
For the best odds in the UK, Thunderball wins clearly: 1 in 8,060,598, against 1 in 139,838,160 for EuroMillions. EuroMillions is the choice for a big jackpot. The new two-round Lotto sits between them on price. UK Lotto and Thunderball explained covers the new Lotto format. In Ireland, the Irish Lotto's move to a 45-ball pool in September 2026 gives it 1 in 8,145,060 jackpot odds, and Daily Million is easier still.
South Africa
The three National Lottery games cover three levels. Daily LOTTO has the best jackpot odds of the English-language games on LottaGo, PowerBall is the hardest of the three to win, and LOTTO sits in between. All three changed operator in June 2026, when Sizekhaya Holdings took over from iThuba.
Australia
Saturday Lotto has by far the best jackpot odds of Australia's three national games: 1 in 8,145,060, against 1 in 62,891,499 for Oz Lotto and 1 in 134,490,400 for Powerball Australia. Longer odds mean the Oz Lotto and Powerball jackpots are won less often, so they roll over more. Australian lotteries compared sets the three side by side.
Canada
Lotto 6/49 draws six numbers from 1–49, with a fixed C$5 million Classic jackpot and a separate Gold Ball draw on every play. Its Classic jackpot odds are 1 in 13,983,816, and the chance of any prize is 1 in 6.6.
Which lottery is the easiest to win?
Among the games above, South Africa's Daily LOTTO has the shortest jackpot odds: C(36,5) = 376,992 possible lines, so 1 in 376,992. Ireland's Daily Million comes next at 1 in 3,262,623, then Thunderball (1 in 8,060,598), the Irish Lotto and Saturday Lotto (both 1 in 8,145,060).
Easiest isn't the same as best value. Daily LOTTO's jackpot is a fraction of a Powerball jackpot, and Thunderball's top prize is fixed. Decide first whether you want a realistic chance of a smaller sum or a tiny chance of a life-changing one. The full odds table ranks all 45 lotteries.
"On sale" vs "results only"
Lotteries marked on sale have a "Buy ticket" button that leads to LottaGo's official partner, which buys the real ticket for you where its service is available. LottaGo earns a commission on those purchases and doesn't sell tickets or pay prizes itself. Lotteries marked results only, such as UK Lotto, EuroDreams and Vikinglotto, have full results, statistics and AI Agent lines, but no ticket link. Use the filter at the top of the page to show either group. Whichever game you choose, play for fun, with a budget set in advance, and only if you are 18 or over.
Frequently asked questions
Which lottery has the biggest jackpot right now?
It changes after every draw. At the latest update, the Powerball jackpot is $562,000,000, Mega Millions is $385,000,000 and EuroMillions is €37,000,000. The US games usually lead when they roll over, because their long odds mean the jackpot is won less often. Each lottery card on this page shows its current jackpot and next draw.
Which lottery is best in Australia?
It depends on your goal. Saturday Lotto has the best division 1 odds of The Lott's three national games, at 1 in 8,145,060 for 6 numbers from 45. Oz Lotto (1 in 62,891,499) and Powerball Australia (1 in 134,490,400) are harder to win, so their jackpots tend to grow larger. Choose Saturday Lotto for odds, the other two for jackpot size.
What is the best lottery to play in the UK?
For the best jackpot odds, Thunderball: 1 in 8,060,598 for a fixed £500,000 at £1 a line. For the biggest jackpots, EuroMillions, at £2.50 a line and 1 in 139,838,160. The new two-round UK Lotto costs £2 a line; its official per-line odds for the new format are not yet confirmed, so LottaGo doesn't rank it.
What does "results only" mean?
A "results only" lottery has full results, number statistics and AI Agent lines on LottaGo, but no Buy ticket button, because LottaGo's ticket partner doesn't offer it. UK Lotto, Set for Life (UK), EuroDreams and Vikinglotto are examples. You can still check every draw and play the game through its official operator where that is allowed.
