What are the most drawn lottery numbers?
The most drawn numbers are the ones that have come up most often in a lottery's results since its current rules began. In Powerball, for example, the six most drawn white balls since Oct 7, 2015 are 21, 61, 64, 28, 23, and 27, counted over 1,418 draws. These counts describe the past. They don't make any number more likely in the next draw.
How LottaGo counts the top numbers
LottaGo counts every main number in every draw held under the lottery's current rules, and the counts are updated after each draw. Draws played under an older format are left out on purpose. When a game changes its number pool, old counts stop being comparable.
The Irish Lotto is a clear example. It cut its pool from 47 to 45 balls in September 2026. Balls 46 and 47 can no longer be drawn, so counting them with the rest would make every other number look rarer than it is. The same applies to Mega Millions, whose Mega Ball pool went from 25 to 24 in April 2025, and South Africa's PowerBall and Lotto, which got new number pools in 2026.
Each lottery's statistics page shows three views of the same history:
- Total hits since the current rules began, with a dashed line for the count you would expect if all numbers were equally likely.
- Hits in the last 100 draws, where "hot" numbers stand out.
- Gap, the number of draws since a number last appeared, where "overdue" numbers stand out.
Why frequency doesn't predict the next draw
Lottery draws are independent. The balls have no memory, and each draw starts from the full set. In Powerball, every white ball has a 5 in 69 chance (about 7.2%) of being drawn in any draw, whether it came up last week or hasn't appeared for months.
So why do some numbers lead the table? Random results are uneven over short and medium runs. By the law of large numbers, the share of draws each number appears in moves closer to its expected value as more draws pile up. It doesn't do this by "catching up". Early differences are simply diluted by thousands of later draws. A number at the top of the list today can drop to the middle a year from now without anything about the draw changing.
LottaGo tests this directly. Every lottery page runs a χ² uniformity test on the counts. A p-value above 0.05 means the differences between numbers look like ordinary random noise. The AI Agent's backtest shows the same thing from another angle: lines built from hot numbers or all-time leaders match about as often as random picks.
Most drawn numbers in the big lotteries
| Lottery | Most drawn main numbers | Draws counted | Since |
|---|---|---|---|
| Powerball (US) | 21, 61, 64, 28, 23, and 27 | 1,418 | Oct 7, 2015 |
| Mega Millions | 40, 42, 17, 18, 49, and 63 | 158 | Apr 8, 2025 |
| EuroMillions | 42, 17, 29, 44, 10, and 23 | 1,048 | Sep 27, 2016 |
| Irish Lotto | 15, 24, 14, 20, 26, and 3 | 16 | Sep 5, 2026 |
| SA LOTTO | 24, 10, 19, 23, 8, and 20 | 38 | Jun 3, 2026 |
| SA PowerBall | 40, 2, 27, 37, 9, and 19 | 38 | Jun 2, 2026 |
| SA Daily LOTTO | 10, 14, 4, 25, 28, and 11 | 1,770 | Dec 1, 2021 |
| Oz Lotto | 21, 30, 47, 17, 4, and 39 | 229 | May 24, 2022 |
A game whose rules changed recently has few draws under the new format. The Irish Lotto, SA LOTTO and SA PowerBall all changed in 2026, so their top numbers rest on a short history and will shuffle around a lot. A daily game such as Daily LOTTO builds up draws fastest. Every other lottery's leaders are on its own statistics tab.
How to use top numbers for fun
Top numbers are a fine way to choose a line if you enjoy it, as long as you know what they are. Some players like to follow hot numbers, some prefer overdue ones, and some mix both. Every combination has exactly the same chance of the jackpot.
If you want a ready-made line, the AI Agent builds five, each from a different angle on the draw history, such as recent momentum, long gaps or steady frequency. Our guide do hot and cold numbers work? looks at the backtest results in detail. Set a budget, play for fun, and only if you are 18 or over.
Frequently asked questions
Which lottery numbers come up the most?
It depends on the game, because every lottery has its own pool and its own history. In Powerball, the most drawn white balls since Oct 7, 2015 are 21, 61, 64, 28, 23, and 27. In EuroMillions they are 42, 17, 29, 44, 10, and 23, and in SA Daily LOTTO 10, 14, 4, 25, 28, and 11. These leaders change after every draw, and the gap between first and last place is usually the size that chance alone produces.
Are frequently drawn numbers more likely to win?
No. Each draw is independent, so a number that has come up often has exactly the same chance in the next draw as one that has come up rarely. In a 5-from-69 game like Powerball, every white ball has a 5 in 69 chance in every draw. LottaGo's backtest confirms it: lines built from the most drawn numbers match about as often as random picks.
Why count only draws under the current rules?
Because a change of number pool changes what "often" means. When the Irish Lotto dropped from 47 to 45 balls, every remaining number became a little more likely in each draw, and balls 46 and 47 disappeared. Mixing old and new draws would distort both the counts and the expected values, so LottaGo starts each count on the date the current format began, or at the start of its draw record if the format hasn't changed since.
What are the most likely lottery numbers?
There are none. In a fair draw every number in the pool is equally likely, and every full line has the same chance of the jackpot, for example 1 in 292,201,338 in Powerball. The most drawn numbers only show what has already happened. If you want to avoid sharing a prize, lines that aren't made only of birthdays (1–31) tend to be less popular, but they are no more likely to win.
